Walkers are Welcome UK Network

Investigate this nationwide, initiative launched in 2007, to encourage towns and villages to be ‘welcoming to walkers’.  The network has expanded rapidly and there are now over 100 locations across the UK that have joined this innovative community-led scheme to benefit from Walkers are Welcome accreditation.

Walkers are Welcome in Market Weighton was the first town in the East Riding to be registered.  Accreditation was achieved in 2008.

Maps and Mapping

Where's the path  A free mapping site. Using a side by side combination of Ordnance Survey maps on the left of the screen and Google satellite image on the right, 'Where's the Path' allows you to follow paths on the map and ground image.  You can also create a route and print the map.  Ordnance Survey limits the daily of map usage of the site, so don't leave it too late in the day!  You can also view the OS 1930s maps to see how things have changed.

Ordnance Survey OS Maps Online  Configure your own walking map using the Ordnance Survey digital resources.  Free trial and then subscription.

My preferred mapping site is www.streetmap.co.uk for ease of use and access to 1:25000 Ordnance Survey maps which show footpaths! It is also free to use!  This is the site to which our walk grid references link.
